I am Syam Manohar, Chief Creative Officer, filmmaker and co-founder of Sutra Communications.
For more than thirty years, I have worked at the meeting point of advertising, brand building and visual storytelling. At Y&R Dubai, I created work for some of the region’s most respected local and international brands. I then co-founded Sutra Communications with my partner, Sunil.
What began as a small independent agency has grown into a multidisciplinary creative company with teams in Dubai and India. Along the way, I have written and shaped more than 500 television commercials for brands, cultures and audiences across the world.
Today, that journey continues in a new direction: filmmaking, art and the fast-emerging world of AI cinema.
Technology can create images. Only humanity can give them meaning.
The stories that stay with us are often the simplest ones. Stories of memory, love, loneliness, loss, identity and hope.
I do not see AI as a replacement for imagination. I see it as a new cinematic language, one that lets us visualise the impossible, enter unfamiliar worlds and tell deeply human stories without the old limits of budget, location or scale.
The tools will keep changing. The purpose never does:
To make people feel.
After more than 500 commercials, I began asking a simple question: what could artificial intelligence add to the craft of filmmaking?
What started as curiosity became a creative practice. Today, writing, direction, design, cinematography, performance, sound and music come together through a new set of tools, guided by everything advertising taught me about telling a story in seconds.
I now create AI-powered commercials, original short films and cinematic experiments. Each one begins in the same place:
A strong idea.
A true emotion.
A story worth remembering.
